Ethan Raines, an environmental studies student at Plattsburgh State University, is on the mountain five days a week during July and August, meeting people, talking with them about the history of the Fire Tower, pointing out the nearby High Peaks, as well as the flora and fauna on the mountain.
And he helps hikers think about how they can help preserve and protect the Adirondack Wilderness, just as the Fire Tower Observers did for many decades.
Leave No Trace.
